EU PROJECT – MeDInno II: Cross-Border Cooperation to Safeguard the Authenticity of Agri-Food Products in Greece and Italy

On September 17-18, 2025, the partners of the MeDInno II project will meet for the first time, officially launching their joint actions and setting the initial strategic steps toward its successful implementation.

The project aims to strengthen the authenticity, traceability, and extroversion of Mediterranean agri-food products, with a special focus on dairy, cheese, and meat products. By protecting the value of PDO and PGI labels and providing innovative tools to producers and SMEs, MeDInno II seeks to protect and promote the values of local production while reinforcing the agri-food value chain.

Specifically, the project will:

  • Develop and implement advanced technologies for authenticity certification and traceability through pilot applications in Greece and Italy.
  • Establish Regional Export Observatories to monitor data and support evidence-based policymaking in the cross-border area.
  • Provide digital tools to enhance the export capacity of local products.
  • Create e-learning tools and living labs, helping farmers and transhumant livestock breeders acquire new skills.
  • Conduct consumer surveys on trust, traceability, and purchasing preferences.
  • Promote the local agri-food products of Epirus, Apulia, and Basilicata beyond the cross-border region through participation in international fairs and targeted promotional activities.

Project partnership consists of the Region of Epirus (Lead Partner), the Association of Transhumance Stockbreeders of Epirus, the Hellenic-Italian Chamber of Commerce of Thessaloniki, the Region of Basilicata, the Confagricoltura Bari and the COMFIMI Industria Basilicata.

MeDInno II is co-funded by the European Union (ERDF) and national resources of Greece and Italy under the Interreg VI-A Greece-Italy 2021-2027 Programme.
